Upcoming Gold Standard-The Oscars Podcast Guest Appearance
Guess which Finnish folk horror film we're discussing!
Sunday night, I recorded a new guest appearance for the Gold Standard-The Oscars Podcast. Last time we discussed METROPOLIS (1927). This time we chatted about my pick VALKOINEN PEURA / THE WHITE REINDEER (1952). It’s a Finnish folk horror film. In it, a newly wed Sámi woman (Mirjami Kuosmanen) cannot cope with the newfound isolation that marriage to a reindeer herder brings, and she’s disappointed by his exhausted inattentiveness when actually present. Her solution to visit the local shaman for a magical fix transforms her into a bloodthirsty monster. Kuosmanen’s charismatic and silent-film-style, highly expressive performance anchors this visually stunning, black and white film. All three of the podcast’s hosts–DJ Nik, Xan, and Rachel–miked up this round. They came ready to share their first time watch impressions. Learn more about the film from the in-depth discussion we had on the podcast. I’ll let you know when my upcoming Gold Standard-The Oscars Podcast guest appearance drops!
